HUSH PUPPIES 
2 c. self-rising cornmeal mix
3/4 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
1 onion, chopped finely
1/4 tsp. garlic salt

Combine cornmeal mix, milk, egg, and onion; mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoons into deep hot oil (375 degrees), frying only a few at a time until golden brown. Test the first ones cooked. Adjust the amount of batter used or the oil temperature until hush puppies are brown and done. Drain on absorbent paper. Makes about 2 dozen.
