ROSE CAKE 
1 cup shortening (Crisco)
4 cups sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup milk
12 egg whites
red food coloring

Cream together shortening, sugar, flour, water and milk for 3 minutes on medium speed. Beat whites until stiff; fold into batter.

Tint 1/4 batter red. In 2 (9-inch) or 1 (9 x 13-inch) greased and floured pan, layer white, red and white. Cut through batter to marble.

Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes. Ice and decorate as desired.
