SCALLOPED BROCCOLI OR ASPARAGUS 
4 c. fresh asparagus, cut in 1-inch pieces
1 c. fresh broccoli, cut in pieces
1 1/2 c. milk
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 c. grated American cheese
1 c. bread crumbs
2 tbsp. butter

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cook broccoli or asparagus in a little water until tender, then transfer to a buttered baking dish. Combine milk, flour, salt and pepper together. Add to vegetables. Add the cheese and half the bread crumbs, stir. Dot with butter; sprinkle remaining bread crumbs on top. Bake 30 minutes or until top browns.
