AMISH VANILLA PIE 
1 (9") pie shell, unbaked

FILLING;
1/2 c. dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. light corn syrup or light molasses
1 tbsp. flour
1 c. water
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla

In saucepan, combine ingredients. Cook over low heat until thicken. Stir constantly, about 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Pour into pie shell and add:

CRUMB TOPPING:

1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. light brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. shortening

Combine topping mixture with pastry blender until crumbly. Put topping on pie mixture. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
