1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 can applesauce
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. cocoa

Cream together sugar, shortening, eggs, applesauce and vanilla. Sift together flour, soda and cocoa. Add to cream mixture. Pour into 9"x13" pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

TOPPING: Sprinkle over cake before baking 6 ounces chocolate chips, 1/2 cup nuts and 3 tablespoons sugar.
