1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening, melted
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. raisins or dates (7 1/4 oz. pkg.)
1 orange (except juice)
2 c. flour with pinch of salt
1 tsp. baking soda

(Grind raisins or dates and orange together.) Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and mix well. Then add flour alternately with buttermilk, to which soda has been added, and then the ground fruit. Bake about 45 minutes in 350 degree oven.

FROSTING:

Orange juice (a small cheese glass full)
1 c. brown sugar

Heat to boiling point. Spoon over cake immediately when taken from the oven.
