GUM DROP FRUIT CAKE 
1 lb. raisins, chopped
1 1/2 lbs. lg. gum drops (no black ones)
1 c. walnuts, chopped
4 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs, well beaten
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 tsp. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla

Cut gum drops and dredge in flour. Set aside. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and applesauce. Mix. Sift flour and spices together and add. Mix thoroughly. Add nuts, raisins and gum drops. Add soda and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into two greased 9 inch loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for two hours.
