GUM DROP FRUIT CAKE 
1 lb. raisins (white ones but others will do)
1 lb. gum drops (no black ones)
1 c. nut meats
4 c. flour
1 c. butter or substitute
2 c. white sugar
2 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c. applesauce, mashed fine
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 tbsp. hot water and add to the applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift dry ingredients together (flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg). Use part to dredge raisins, gum drops and nut meats. Gum drops and raisins should be floured as they are cut. Cream butter and sugar, add well beaten eggs. Add alternately flour mixture and applesauce which had dissolved soda in it. Add raisins, gum drops, nuts and vanilla. Line pans with heavy waxed paper and grease. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until done.
