SHORTCUT SPRINGERLE COOKIES 
1 c. butter
3 tsp. anise extract
1 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
Granulated sugar
Red and green candied cherry halves

Cream butter in large bowl with electric mixer. Gradually add sugar, beat until light and fluffy. Stir in anise extract. Gradually add flour. Mix until thoroughly combined. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Shape dough into 1 inch balls, roll in sugar. Place on greased baking sheet.

Flatten balls slightly. Press cherry half into top of each cookie. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned around edges. Remove to wire rack to cool.

Makes about 5 dozen.
