GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. white sugar
1 c. Crisco
1 c. buttermilk
4 eggs
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. German sweet chocolate
1 tsp. baking soda

Dissolve chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water. Set aside. Beat 4 egg whites until stiff. Cream Crisco and sugar. Add beaten egg yolks. Add buttermilk alternately with flour. Dissolve soda in chocolate. Add to ingredients. Add vanilla. Fold in egg whites. Bake 3 (9 inch) layers at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

FILLING:

1 c. evaporated milk
1/2 c. butter
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sugar
3 egg yolks
1 1/3 c. angel coconut

Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Spread between layers.
