ROYAL RED CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
2 oz. red coloring

Cream Crisco with sugar. Add food coloring and eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each egg. Sift flour, salt and cocoa three times and add alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla. Dissolve soda in vinegar and fold into batter. Bake in two 9 inch pans well greased 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

ICING:

1 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1/4 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco

Mix and cook slowly until thick, let cool. Whip 1 cup Crisco and 1 cup sugar until fluffy. Add flour mixture and spread on cake.
