1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 c. grated apple
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 tbsp. hot water
2 c. flour
1 c. raisins, coarsely chopped
1 c. nuts

Cream sugar and shortening. Add apples. Beat well. Mix dry ingredients. Add nuts and raisins to dry ingredients. Add soda last. Bake in a 9"x13" pan 45 minutes in 350 degree oven or until done.
