MOTHER'S SUGAR COOKIES 
2 1/4 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp. milk

Sift flour, salt, and baking powder. Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs, vanilla, then add sifted ingredients and milk. Roll out and cut; sprinkle with sugar and bake on cookie sheet in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 12 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

Variation: To make diabetic cookies, substitute 2 tablespoons Sweet 10 Diabetic Sugar for the 1 cup granulated sugar. Also, you can use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.

Caraway seed sprinkled on top.

Chocolate: Add 2 ounce square melted chocolate.

Lemon: Use lemon flavoring.

Maple: Use maple syrup instead of granulated sugar.

Spice: 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, allspice, and cloves.
