DATE COOKIES 
FILLING:

1 lb. pitted dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cold water

Put water, sugar, and dates in pan and bring to a boil. Boil about 2 minutes. Add nuts and let cool.

COOKIE DOUGH:

1 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. oatmeal
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter add brown sugar. Beat until well blended. Add hot water, dry ingredients, and oatmeal. Chill dough 1/2 hour. Roll on floured board. Add filling to half of dough. Lap the other side over top of filling. Cut in squares. Bake in 350 degree oven on greased cookie sheet until golden brown.
