1 c. sugar 1 c. shortening (use 1/3 c. each bacon fat, lard or shortening & butter or all beef drippings) 3 1/3 c. presifted flour 1 egg 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. each salt & nutmeg 1 c. currants or raisins 1/2 c. milk Cream together sugar and shortening. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Blend well. Stir in currants or raisins, milk and eggs; blend well. With floured hands and board, carefully pat or roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness; cut into 2 inch triangles. A round biscuit cutter may also be used. Slowly bake on lightly greased griddle, turning twice to brown. (If you can make pancakes, you can make these they are delicious.) |
