FILLED DROP COOKIES 
1 lb. dates, cut up
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water

Cook until thick and set aside.

COOKIE DOUGH:

1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. quick cooking oatmeal
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs and mix well. Sift flour and spices and add alternately with boiling water (which has had the soda added to it). Add vanilla and oatmeal.

Drop rounded teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. On top of this put a dab of the date filling. On top of this put a little more cookie dough. Experiment with a couple to get the size wanted. This makes a good sized batch. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 350 to 375 degree oven.
