FRUIT DROP COOKIES 
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
1/2 c. buttermilk, or 7 tbsp. milk plus 2 tsp. vinegar
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
Candied cherries
2 c. cut up pitted dates

Sift flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs until creamy. Blend in flour, mix alternately with buttermilk. Stir in pecans, cherries, and dates. Drop teaspoons of dough on greased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Makes 8 dozen.
