SALT WATER TAFFY 
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. white Karo
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Combine sugar and cornstarch in heavy pan. Add syrup, butter and water. Blend good. Place over low heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Cook to soft crack stage. (Do Not Stir!) 275 degrees. Remove from heat. Add cream of tartar, vanilla and salt. Blend thoroughly.
