1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. milk
2 eggs
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

CHOCOLATE MIXTURE:

1/2 c. cocoa
2 tbsp. butter
1 egg yolk
2 heaping tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. milk

Cream sugar and butter; add vanilla and eggs, reserving 1 yolk for the chocolate mixture. Put the ingredients of the chocolate mixture into a small saucepan and cook over fire until thick, stirring constantly. When thick, add to first mixture. Then add the flour and soda (sifted) and the milk. This makes a moist black cake and when topped with a creamed frosting, is delicious!
