HONEY CAKE 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 heaping c. honey
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
(Allspice can be substituted for ginger)
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda diluted in 1 c. boiling water
2 1/2 c. flour
2 eggs

Mix sugar, shortening, honey, cloves, ginger and cinnamon together. Pour soda mixture over this mixture. Add flour and eggs. Mix, but do not overbeat. Pour into greased and floured pan 5 x 9 inches, or can be used in cupcakes. Fill cup liners 1/2 full. Bake in moderate oven at 375 degrees until done.
