BLUE RIBBON DATE - NUT BREAD 
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 1/4 c. flour
2 tbsp. oil
1 tsp. vanilla

Place nuts and dates in mixing bowl and sprinkle with soda. Add the boiling water, sugar, egg, and flour; mix well. Add oil and vanilla; mix again.

Turn batter into greased and floured bread loaf pan. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
