GRANDMA'S DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1/2 c. cold water
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix sugar, cocoa, shortening and eggs. Add cold water and flour. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add to mixture. Add vanilla. Bake in greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees until the edges begin to pull away from pan and a toothpick comes out clean. DO NOT OVER BAKE.
