SWEDISH MOLASSES BREAD | |
3/4 c. sugar 2 pkg. yeast 3 c. rye flour or whole wheat 1/2 c. shortening 3 c. boiling water 3/4 c. warm water 1 c. Grandma's molasses 2 tsp. salt 8 or 8 1/2 c. flour Soften yeast in warm water. Combine flour, sugar, syrup, salt and shortening. Add the boiling water and cool to lukewarm; add yeast; gradually add white flour and mix well. Knead until smooth and let rise. Punch down and let rise again. Form into loaves and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Brush top with butter. Wrap in wax paper when cool. |
