CATHERINE'S BREAD AND BUTTER
PICKLES
 
4 qts. zucchini, sliced
1 1/2 c. sliced onion
1/2 c. salt
5 c. sugar
5 c. vinegar
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 lg. red or green pepper, sliced

Combine zucchini, onions, and salt. Mix well and cover with ice cubes. Let stand for 3-4 hours and then drain. Combine remaining ingredients into a pot. Stir well. Add zucchini, onion, and pepper. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, about 20-30 minutes, until soft. Pack into hot jars.
