PATCHWORK COOKIES 
1 c. butter
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. all purpose flour
12 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
Gum drops
Candy
Coconut
Chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter. Gradually add sugar, beating until well blended. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in flour. Spread evenly in well-buttered 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch jelly roll pan. Bake 15 to 18 minutes until lightly browned. Remove from oven; quickly sprinkle chocolate pieces over baked cookie base. Return to oven 2 to 3 minutes to soften chocolate. Remove from oven; immediately spread chocolate over cookie base. Mark off into 1 1/2 inch squares and top each square with chopped nuts, coconut, crushed peppermint candy, green gum drops and red cinnamon candies.
