BRAIDED SWEET BREAD 
6 eggs, slightly beaten
1 stick butter, softened
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. lemon or anisette extract
2 tbsp. rum (liquor)
1/2 tsp. salt
6 c. flour
1 yeast cake
1/2 c. lukewarm water

Heat water to lukewarm and crumble in yeast. Let stand 5 minutes. In a large bowl, sift flour, sugar and salt. Add eggs, butter, extract and rum. Stir in yeast mixture and beat until smooth. Cover and let rise in warm place about 2 hours. Turn out on floured board and knead. Divide dough into 6 balls. Roll each ball length of cookie sheet. Place 3 strips on one greased cookie sheet, then braid. Repeat with others. Cover and let rise for 1 hour. Brush with egg yolk. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done. Makes 2 braided loaves.
