Not So Sweet Frosting

The BEST frosting ever! I had only 1/2 cup of butter in the fridge so I also used 1/2 cup Challenge Spreadable Butter which contains olive oil to equal the full cup needed for the recipe. In spite of that substitution the end result was fantastic.

How would we make this a chocolate frosting without messing up the recipe?

 Leanne Mccolm (British Columbia) replies:
I think you could just add cocoa powder to your butter/sugar part. I plan on giving it a try this weekend.

I love this! I use a similar recipe for my whoopie pie filling! Very creamy and not so sweet! You have to really beat it though. I only have a hand mixer but made myself stay with it! My new favorite icing!

I will be honest, I was skeptical the whole time I was making this but it turned out to be an amazing frosting! I have been baking and looking for a "not to sweet" frosting recipe for a long time. You do have to take your time with it, not one you can rush but worth the time.

The best frosting I have ever tasted, so easy, few ingredients and will go with any type of cake, I would give it 10 stars if I could. Love it!

I made this recipe many times, it is very similar to another one I have, but I used crisco instead of butter. Made a awesome icing on a spice cake.

I have a tip for everyone if it appears watery, just add more flour until you are satisfied with the thickness and it comes out great. Thank you for this recipe and will be trying more.

I love this. Takes along time to beat it to a perfect consistency. Definitely need a stand mixer for this. Living in a hot climate, I'm surprise that it even pipes really well. My new fave frosting for sure.

This recipe saved me from a mess up I made. I ran out of icing sugar and what I tried to make did not do the cake any justice.. so thank you for this recipe!

Quite a mess for me personally. I followed the directions for this 'Not so sweet' whipped cream frosting and had a buttery, messy creation. It was very watery and it didn't taste good at all. Very disappointed.

This recipe is awesome! Just don't overcook the milk/flour mixture coz there will be solid particles on it. Very yummy and surprised that the sugar is not that grainy.. better than using confectioners sugar
