TURTLE COOKIES | |
1 1/2 c. flour 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar 2 eggs 1/2 tsp. maple flavoring 1/4 tsp. vanilla Pecan halves split Food coloring to suit Cream butter and brown sugar. Add 1 egg and 1 egg yolk (reserve egg white to use later), the maple and vanilla flavoring. Add the dry ingredients gradually, mix thoroughly. Dough will be soft. Chill. Place 5 split pecan halves in groups to look like the head and legs of a turtle. Mold rounded teaspoons of dough, dip in the unbeaten egg white and place on pecans so that tips of pecans will show when cookies are baked. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Do not overbake. Frost shell with green frosting and frost a red headband or frost with tinted frosting any color you choose. Holiday variation: Red and green for Christmas or orange for halloween. |
