CHRISTMAS TRADITION | |
About 3 weeks before Christmas, my family gets together with another family and each person makes their own graham cracker house. Each family makes their own village and sets it up on a large piece of styrofoam (meat trays work great). We create streets and lollipop trees. Each year the children become more creative with their houses and village. (We keep some candy from Halloween to decorate houses.) ICING: 4 c. powdered sugar 3 egg whites (room temperature) 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar Food coloring (optional) Beat at low speed, sugar, egg whites and cream of tartar, until blended. Beat at high speed for 5-7 minutes. Tint if desired. Icing dries quickly, keep covered with a damp cloth. Making Houses: To cut rectangular houses into squares or triangles for sides or roof. Carefully score crackers with serrated knife, gently break at the score line. Do not try to cut all the way through, the cracker may shatter. Stick crackers together with icing using a decorating bag or knife. Hold in place until wall sticks to the bottom. Continue with triangles for roof. Decorate with candy and sprinkles as desired using icing to make them stick. You can use decorating tips or just a knife to spread icing for decorating. |
