FIG PRESERVES 
3 qts. or more of figs
1/2 c. baking soda
6 c. sugar
1 c. vinegar
1 c. water
Spice bag with 1 tsp. cloves + 1 stick cinnamon

Pour boiling water over figs and soda to cover. Let stand 5 minutes. Drain.

Add remaining ingredients. Bring to boil. Let stand overnight or until cool. Repeat to boil again, let cool. Third boiling back in hot jars.
