CAPE COD BLUEBERRY CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. hot water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. bran flakes
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. light molasses
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. each baking powder & salt
1 1/2 to 2 c. blueberries (14 1/2 oz. can)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, beat well. Beat in molasses. Add hot water and blend until smooth. Sift flour with soda, baking powder, salt and spices. Add to molasses mixture. Beat until smooth. Drain berries (if necessary), then add to batter with cereal, mixing well. Pour into 9 inch square pan which has been greased and lightly floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes. Cut in squares. Serve warm with butter, whipped cream or a sauce. Makes over 12 servings.
