BREADSTICKS | |
1 loaf frozen bread dough 1 tbsp. egg white 1 tbsp. water Coarse ground salt, caraway, poppy or sesame seeds Let dough thaw and rise until doubled in size. Use a sharp knife to cut into 24 to 36 pieces. Roll back and forth on a lightly floured surface with the heel of both hands at once to shape into pencil like strips, about 8" to 10" long. Place about 1" apart on greased cookie sheets. Let rise until double in size, about 30 minutes. Stir egg white and water together to make an "egg wash", brush over breadsticks. Sprinkle with salt or seeds as desired. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown, the shorter the time, the chewier the sticks. Makes 2 to 3 dozen. (May also serve dipped in pizza or spaghetti sauce.) |
