HEALTH BREAD (RAISED) | |
1 pkg. dry yeast 2 1/2 c. lukewarm water, potato water or scalded milk 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. molasses 1/2 c. shortening (Crisco) 1 tsp. salt 2 c. graham or whole wheat flour 6 c. white flour 1 c. raisins (opt.) Soften yeast in warm water. Add brown sugar, molasses and shortening. Add salt and flour. Knead well. Cover and let rise 1 hour. Knead again, cover and let rise another hour. Shape into loaves. Let rise until double in bulk. Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, for about one hour. Makes 3 loaves. |
