THE ROHDE FAMILY PEA SOUP 
1 lb. dried green peas
1 lb. bacon or salt pork, diced
2 carrots, chopped
Chopped turnip (to taste)
Salt & pepper to taste
Mace, savory or mint to taste
Milk or cream
Croutons or bacon bits if desired

Soak peas in water overnight. Drain. Add bacon or salt pork and add vegetables. Cover with water and add pepper, savory or mint. Bring to a boil; reduce to simmer and cook until peas lose shape and become creamy. Soup may be thinned using milk or cream to desired consistency.
