TURTLE CAKE | |
1 German chocolate cake mix 3/4 c. butter, melted 1/2 c. evaporated milk Mix dry cake mix, butter, and milk, and put half in a greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake 5 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool. Melt 1 bag Kraft caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk in the top of a double boiler. Spread over cooled cake layer. Sprinkle with 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces. Put spoonfuls of remaining batter over top of all this and bake an additional 20 minutes. Top with sprinkled powdered sugar, if desired, or use the icing as follows. CARAMEL TOPPING: 1 lb. brown sugar 1/2 c. butter 1 c. water 1 tsp. vanilla Dash of salt Bring to a boil. Cook 2 minutes. Thicken with cornstarch. use on cake after it has been cut. |
