1 box German chocolate cake mix
1 bag caramel squares
1/2 can condensed milk
1/2 stick butter
1 c. chocolate chips
1 sm. carton Cool Whip

Mix cake mix as directed on box. Pour 1/2 of cake batter into a 9x13 pan and cook for 15 minutes in oven at temperature suggested on box.

In saucepan heat 1 package of caramel squares and 1/2 can condensed milk and 1/2 stick butter. Pour this mixture over the cooked portion of the cake. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of caramel mixture. Pour other 1/4 of cake mixture on top of this. Cook for remaining amount of time. Cool. Cover with Cool Whip.
