APPLE DUMPLING COBBLER 
3-4 c. chopped apples
1 c. flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1 - 1 1/2 tbsp. butter
1/3 - 1/2 tsp. lemon extract

Spread apples in 9"x13" baking dish. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, shortening and milk in bowl; mix well. Pour over apples. Combine sugar, butter, lemon extract and 1 cup hot water in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Pour over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes or until brown, basting occasionally. This recipe comes from my great-great grandmother. Yield: 8 servings.
