BASIC BISCUIT MIX
8 c. all-purpose flour
1/3 c. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
8 tsp. sugar

With a pastry blender or two table knives, cut in 1 cup shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Store in air tight covered container. The mixture will keep for some time on a cupboard shelf or for months if stored in the refrigerator.

Use to make hot biscuits; add 1/3 cup milk for every cup of mix; or for pancakes, waffles, dumplings, etc. Use as you would a purchased biscuit mix.
