RED VELVET CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. orange extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. lemon extract
1 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 tsp. vinegar

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs. Sift flour and salt. Add alternately with sour milk. Add cinnamon, extracts, and food coloring. Mix well; add soda and beat into batter. Pour in a greased and floured pan(s). Bake at 350 degrees.

Frosting: 1 cup milk, 4 tablespoons flour, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix together in a pan. Cook and stir until thick. Cool. 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar, butter, shortening, and vanilla. Add to cooked mixture and beat until it resembles whipped cream.
