SENSIBLY DELICIOUS DOUBLE
CHOCOLATE CHIP BROWNIES
 
2 c. (12 oz.) pkg. Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate morsels, divided
1 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
2 tbsp. butter
3 egg whites
1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/3 c. chopped nuts (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Melt 1 cup morsels, sugar, applesauce and butter in large, heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.

3. Remove from heat.

4. Add egg whites; stir well.

5. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Stir in remaining morsels and nuts.

6. Spread into greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan.

7. Bake for 16-20 minutes or just until set. For fudgier brownies bake to minimum baking time.

8. Cool completely; cut into 2 inch squares. Makes 24 brownies. Each brownie contains 7 grams of fat (6 grams without nuts) verses 11 grams in traditional recipe.
