CHRISTMAS CANDY 
2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. water
Dash of salt
Cinnamon oil or mint flavoring
Red or green food coloring
Powdered sugar

Combine sugar, syrup, water and salt. Bring to a boil (290°F). Add a few drops of food coloring and 4 to 6 drops of cinnamon oil for red candy and mint flavoring for green candy. Stir mixture and blend color and flavoring. Pour into metal 8 x 8 inch pan; do not grease or butter pan. Let stand for a few minutes until a film forms over top. Mark candy in squares with spatula or knife. Start from outer edges and work inward. Continue to go over marks until you have cut all the way through candy and candy is almost completely hard. When squares are separated candy is finished. Roll pieces in powdered sugar.
