GOLDEN POUND CAKE | |
1 c. shortening 1 2/3 c. sugar 5 eggs 1 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice 1/2 tsp. almond extract 2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add lemon juice and almond; beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Bake in waxed paper-lined 5 x 10-inch loaf pan or tube pan in moderately slow oven, 325 degrees, for 75 minutes. CHOCOLATE FROSTING 1/4 c. melted shortening 2 1/4 c. powdered sugar 1/4 c. cocoa 1/2 tsp. salt 1 egg yolk 1/4 c. water Sift sugar, cocoa and salt together. Add shortening, egg yolk and water. Beat thoroughly and vigorously. |
