SPICED CHRISTMAS COOKIES | |
3/4 cup butter 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1 cup molasses (Grandma's) 1 tsp. ground allspice 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 3 2/3 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt Combine butter, brown sugar, molasses, allspice, cinnamon and cloves in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Immediately remove from heat and let cool. Cover and leave at room temperature for 8 hours. (I don't believer that this is necessary.) Combine flour, soda and salt. Stir flour mixture into syrup mixture. Chill several hours. Divide dough into 4 portions. Work with 1 portion of dough at a time, refrigerate the rest. Place dough on lightly floured cookie sheet and roll to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter into desired shapes. Remove excess. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-9 minutes. Cool on wire racks. |
