MOM'S FRUIT COOKIES 
1 c. butter
2 1/4 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. sweet milk
4 eggs, beaten light
1 1/2 c. raisins (more if desired)
1 1/2 c. cut up dates (more if desired)
1 c. cut up nuts (English walnuts or pecans)
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1/4 c. hot water
4 c. sifted flour, all-purpose
1 heaping tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
Good pinch of salt

Cream together butter and granulated sugar. Mix all ingredients together. If dough is not stiff enough (bake a test cookie) add more flour. Dough must be very stiff. Scrape from teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheets and bake at 350 degrees until brown. Good. Mom always made these for Christmas.
