HICKORY NUT CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 c. nuts, chopped fine
3 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Mix sugar and shortening. Sift flour and dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk. Add nuts. Fold in egg whites. Pour in 2 layer cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees until cake tests done.
