1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
2 eggs
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts
3 med. apples, pared and diced

TOPPING:

1 stick butter
1 c. half and half
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar, butter and eggs. Beat well. Add 1 cup flour, soda, salt and spices mix. Stir in nuts, vanilla and apples. Bake in 9 inch pan 1 hour at 300 degrees. Topping: Mix all ingredients. Cook and stir over medium heat 5 minutes or more. Serve over dessert.
