BEST CROCKPOT/SLOW COOKER CHICKEN | |
1 whole chicken or capon 1 onion, chopped 2-4 carrots, peeled & thickly sliced 2 celery stalks sliced 2-4 cloves garlic, minced 1 tsp. salt (more or less to taste) pinch of pepper parsley, basil, 2 tsp. fresh, or 1 tsp. dried 3/4 cup water 1 to 2 tsp. soy sauce Place all ingredients except chicken and soy sauce in slow cooker, remove giblets and place atop vegetables or put in a cheesecloth bag. Put chicken in cooker, sprinkle with salt, if desired, and any herbs or paprika. Pour soy sauce over chicken. Set on LOW for 6-7 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours. Remove chicken and veggies with a slotted spoon to a platter. Remove giblets and set aside, cool and serve to dog or cat. At this point you can make spaetzle or dumplings in the slow cooker according to whatever recipe you are using, just turn setting to high and cover to maintain a simmer, or you can cook egg noodles or pasta in the pot or separately, and thicken the pot juices with a tablespoon of flour mixed with enough to make it like the consistency of egg whites, 1-2 tablespoons. Whisk until thick. Submitted by: Laurie R. |
