1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. dates, chopped fine
1 c. boiling water
1 c. butter
1/2 c. honey
2 eggs, beaten
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Top with nuts and chips

Add soda to dates and pour hot water over. Let cool. Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Sift flour, salt, and cocoa. Blend into creamed mixture. Add vanilla and date mixture. Pour in greased 8 inch square pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top. Bake in 325 degree oven 45 to 50 minutes. Serves 9.
