EASY ITALIAN CASSEROLE | |
1 lb. ground beef 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce 1 tsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. basil 1/4 tsp. pepper 1/2 c. milk 8 slices American cheese 1/2 c. chopped onion 1 can mushrooms, drained 1/2 tsp. oregano 1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. Bisquick 1 egg 1/4 c. Parmesan cheese Cook and stir beef and onion until beef is brown; drain. Stir in tomato sauce, mushrooms, sugar, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Grease 9x9x2 pan. Mix Bisquick, milk and egg. Spread into pan. Top with 4 slices of cheese. Spoon beef mixture over cheese. Top with remaining cheese and sprinkle with Parmesan. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes. NOTE: Sometimes I will omit the top four slices of American cheese and substitute grated Mozzarella cheese. Also I use ground turkey instead of ground beef; either tastes great. |
