MOCK WATERMELON PICKLE 
7 lb. watermelon rind or cukes
1 pt. water
3 1/2 lb. sugar
1/2 tsp. oil of cinnamon
1/2 tsp. oil of cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 pt. vinegar

Peel and cut cucumbers and cook in water until you can pierce with a fork. Make a syrup of remaining ingredients. Drain water and pour syrup over cucumbers. Let stand overnight. Drain and boil liquid and then pour over rind again and do 2 more mornings. Last morning bring both rind and cucumbers to boil and bottle while hot.
